Mark Koch
Suncrest Farm Manager
Hailing from Minnesota, Mark Koch joined Suncrest Farms as farm manager in December 2012. With over 40 years of horse experience under his belt, he brings Dressage, Show Jumping, Hunt Seat, Equitation, Team Roping and Saddle Bronc riding with him.

Starting at home and in 4H, he competed and trained during his high school years in Dressage and preliminary jumping. He was also active on the Western and Hunt Seat Equitation teams as well. Koch started college in Animal Science at the University of MN and then Texas A&M continuing in Equine Studies.

After college he spent nine years on the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association circuit. He even got to ride the three day cross country course during the 2000 Olympics in Australia with a reserve TB when he was a horse steward for the games. He downplays this achievement with, “It was fun and interesting.” Mark is not one to brag, but certainly has bragging rights by association with some very top names in the industry; David and Karen O’Connor, Simon Eades and Richard A. G. Watson.

Koch has owned a small breeding farm catering to Appaloosa and AQHA horses where he started all young stock, bred and showed. He is a strong proponent of “Natural Horsemanship” techniques and uses them to the horse’s advantage while training and showing for Suncrest.

He’s proven his horse handling skills in our breeding shed by being gentle, but firm, with stallions and excited mares. Please welcome him to Kentucky.

Melony Johnson
Suncrest Farm Manager

Melony Johnson (now Bofinger) started with us in August of 2007 and has been around since. She and her husband Bo (Ray) bought one of our farms and have been very busy fixing it up since.

After a stellar career, Melony says, “I’m now a backyard horseman.” Currently she is competing in dressage, jumping and has set up a cross country course in her woods. The Morgan still has a very soft spot in her heart and she is starting Gus, her half Morgan in various disciplines. .

Melony continues to be a good friend, a great neighbor and is still around for answers and truthful observations!
